Mound Prairie SNA

After

The Mound Prairie SNA is one of many areas in Minnesota created to protect and preserve native plants and rare protected species as described at https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/snas/what_are.html. In March of 2024 I met with the SNA steward, Levi Plath, to discuss volunteer opportunities. Levi pointed out the buckthorn thicket pictured above as one spot that needed clearing. The spot included not only buckthorn but also honeysuckle, vines and cedars. Later in March my wife Anita and I cut, treated stumps and piled all the invaders for later burning. This work earned us the email at https://rootriverbiketrailinvaders.com/mndnrresponse warning us that further “unsanctioned activity” may result in involvement of the DNR’s Enforcement Division.
