Uncut Vines

Numerous vines like those pictured can be seen along the Root River Bike Trail. Over time the vines will kill the old growth hardwood trees they are growing on. The “death by vines” result is shown below. If the surrounding area has been over run by buckthorn that shades out replacement trees the long term affect is to turn what was once a hardwood forest into a buckthorn thicket.
