The photo on the left side was taken in June 2023 and shows buckthorn branches reaching into the trail. By the time this area was cleared in September the branches had grown and drooped enough that bikers needed to swerve to avoid them. Buckthorn is notorious for its ability to grow sideways while creating a dense thicket. The Root River State Trail corridor will see more areas like this unless trail management decides to take action.
